Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong have teamed for years, making stand up comedy and movies. Their biggest hit came in 1978 with the film "Up in Smoke." The duo rose to fame with comedy about free love, hippies and drug culture.
This tour, dubbed the Light Up America Tour, marks their first international concert series in 25 years. The duo reunited in September after a long split.
Ironically, the Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers will sponsor the event.
"Cheech and Chong are jokingly promoting the event as one they will not remember, but we know that it's one you will not forget," said Robert Mata, a Crime Stoppers staff member.
Long time Vally promoter Arnaldo "Nano" Ramirez booked the event. This marks a major comedy act for the Valley. In August, the Cine El Rey venue in downtown McAllen began hosting comedy night each Wednesday.
"We are very excited to bring yet another big name comedy show to the Valley, and we have already started to get great feedback from fans, especially those who remember the duo's huge success of the '70s," Ramirez said.
The event will also feature Chong's wife Shelby doing a comedy show.
