Top five heroes we want to see on the big screen
It seems as though every superhero has been immortalized on film – Superman, Batman, The Phantom, Daredevil, Captain America, The Fantastic Four, Dick Tracy, Spawn and more. Add another to the roster of superhero-turned-movie-star – Astro Boy.
The boy robot does everything any superhero should. He fights evil and injustice – and flies and shoots lasers out of his fingers. He’s an android who experiences emotions – and represents all that is good about humanity.
The film introduces Astro Boy with the original story. A brilliant scientist creates a robot boy in the image of his son, who he lost in a car accident. But Astro Boy isn’t able to fill the scientist’s son’s shoes, and heads out into the world, searching for acceptance. The fictional city, Metro City, needs a hero though, so Astro Boy must return to save the city and reunite with his father.
There are several other superheroes in need of a full-length feature film – CGI animated or live action. Here are some who deserve a little recognition.
5. Thundercats – It was a favorite after-school cartoon in the ‘80s, and it’s surprising that no one has made a movie about Thundercats yet. Thing is, the movie has been proposed, and concept art for it exists. Warner Brothers put a hold on the CGI project, but fans are hoping for a 2010 release.
4. Ms. Marvel – She could be the next Wonder Woman if anyone would give her some screen time. Carol Danvers is as strong a woman as she is a superheroine as Ms. Marvel. The former United States Air Force officer’s alter ego is also as much fun to play in Xbox 360’s Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 video game as Storm.
3. The Green Lantern – If ever there was a superhero that was overlooked and misunderstood, it would be The Green Lantern. Whether the focus is on the original Green Lantern and his ring, or any of the others from the squad, it could make for a great movie, which is what Warner Brothers is likely hoping. Ryan Reynolds (who played Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Question is, what happens to the planned Deadpool spinoff with Reynolds now cast as Green Lantern?
2. She-Ra – As He-Man’s twin sister, Princess Adora gets the shaft in the fame department. But the “Princess of Power” is a mascot for girl power and deserves her time in the spotlight. The only issue would be casting the lead role – the actor would have to be tall, blonde and gorgeous. Hollywood is running low on those, aren’t they?
1. Flash (Bart Allen, Wally West or Barry Allen) – Sure he’s been a member of the Justice League, had his own (bad) TV show, featured on an animated series and is a recurring character on the television show Smallville, but he has a larger-than-life personality that could fill two hours on the big screen (which may happen since Warner Brother is reportedly reevaluating a Flash project). He’s witty, charming and not-so-great with the ladies. A comedic gold mine.
