NEW RESTAURANTS 2010: Goombadas
North McAllen diners looking for something simple in the swanky Trenton/10th Street area should have a peek at the Las Arboledas shopping strip just south of Martin Ave. On the sun-soaked east-facing corner lies Goombadas, a homegrown sandwich shop with a welcome streak of fun and flavor.
Goombadas offers a full slate of hot and cold sandwiches that are as fresh and satisfying as their names are clever, e.g. “Steak Wid A Bite,” “Nuttin But Turkey” and the “Forgettaboutit.”
The popular Philly Cheese Steak is served with sautéed onions and American cheese in a no-frills plastic basket. The bread at Goombadas is baked on site — one of the many mom-and-pop touches that make this New York-style deli a great destination for good old-fashioned grub.
