Secret and Whisper

Festiva caught up with Secret & Whisper's Jordan Chase, 25, the day after a member of the band's entourage was mugged and had his wallet and cell phone stolen in California. While it's typical for bands to pick the best dozen or so songs for their first album album, leaving 40 or 50 others on the cutting room floor, the British Columbian alt-rockers focused on refinement for their first album, Great White Whale. "The 12 songs that were written made the record because we never finish a song until we are satisfied with it; we didn't want any second guessing involved later," drummer Ryan Loerke said, as stated on Secret & Whisper's MySpace page.

Which song from your first album is your favorite and why?

I think Great White Whale. We love that song without any intention of liking structure or anything...It's a little out there.

How would you describe your clothing style?

At the present moment, I've got some Chuck Taylors on...I don't know how'd I'd describe that...Punk, maybe? I don't know, I've never been asked that before.

If you could vacation anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Somewhere tropical for sure, like Hawaii. I've always wanted to see the Pyramids. I don't know if that's considered tropical or not.

Have you always dreamed of being in a band?

Yeah...I was a pretty big jock...I liked skateboarding and basketball...I've wanted to be in a band since I was, like, 13.

What time of day is your favorite?

Nighttime for sure...I'm a night owl.

Do you see yourself as successful?

Being rich, not really, but as far as being happy, I'm definitely successful.

What's your favorite book?

I'd have to say, well...The Dirt by Motley Crue. It's a biography about all their stuff. One of my favorite books of all time is Hatchet. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I read every year...I like the pictures.
