THE SCREAMER: Cody Peña
Age: 20
Hometown: McAllen
Roll in local music scene: Lead singer for The Requested
Upcoming shows: Summer tour kicks off July 17 in McAllen with The Final Stretch.
Listen to: "Action Figures" on www.myspace.com/therequested. Needless to say for those who have heard it, but the vocals are very prominent on this track.
The Requested's lead singer Cody Peña fears Myspace. The social networking Web site itself doesn't frighten him, but rather the possible pitfalls of meeting women on there. What if he meets a girl on Myspace, sets up a date and she looks nothing like her pictures? He doesn't know how he'd handle it, and he doesn't want to find out.
What's the best part about being a musician?
I would say just the camaraderie with your band mates and fans, and especially going on tour. Being able to wake up, play a show and the next day travel to a completely different place -- do the same thing, meet new people with different reactions, different styles. Every place has its own unique things. It's pretty cool.
Describe your style...
I wear a lot of retro. Not really retro, but like old school stuff. I buy all my shirts at Ropa Usada or Flipside. As long as it looks old, I'll wear it.
Would you ever date an older woman and why?
Probably. Yeah I think I would date an older woman. Just because they tend to be more reasonable with things. Something comes up, and they can understand more. I'm not saying younger people won't, but older people tend to be a little more understanding.
Biggest musical influences?
The band that got me, my idol, was always Chester Bennington from Linkin Park. That guy's just crazy. His style, his vocal range. He can sing so good and at the same time come back and scream. Just his style and his presence on stage, his interaction with the crowd is just amazing.
Who is your celebrity crush?
Megan Fox.
Best pickup line?
I had one girl tell me before, she commented on Myspace, I know it's real lame, she said do you have a mirror in those pants because I see myself in them.
You're stuck on a desert island, what three albums do you have with you?
I would take "Hybrid Theory" by Linkin Park, "Plagues" by The Devil Wears Prada, and I would take the old As Cities Burn, the first album.
Favorite drink?
I really like the G2, the Gatorade thing. Recently I've been hooked on that stuff.
Best song to jam out to?
Best song would probably be, if we're going to be covering a song, I like covering Under Oath or something a little hairy. It's real fun to get into it.
What's the biggest lie you've ever told to a girl?
One of my worst fears is meeting a girl on Myspace, hanging out with them, and that girl does not look like she did on Myspace.
Why is music important to you?
It's a way of describing how you feel, what you're going through, in a different way. You can tell a story with a song. I know a lot of our songs have a meaning behind it.
Best rumor you've heard about yourself?
I hear a lot of rumors about me. People call me attractive, that's OK. I'm not like conceited about it. Just little stuff like that here and there.
Would you rather date a hot chick or one with a sense of humor?
It'd be good if it was both together, but I'd think one with a sense of humor for sure.
What's the craziest thing you've ever seen at a show?
I've seen girls flash the stage. That's pretty crazy.
Favorite part of your body?
I think my stomach.
What three qualities make a girl sexy?
For me, I love athleticism. If they're athletic, awesome. You know a good body, that's always a plus. I guess their personality. If they're real cool, real laid back. I think that's sexy, that's real cool.
Would you ever strip for money?
If I really, really needed it yes.
If you could have any talent other than music what would it be?
Acting for sure. Just because you can basically get away with anything if you act. If you're a good actor, you're obviously doing something right. You can get away with a lot of lies if you get yourself into something.
