CREATIVE WRITING: ‘The Dream' by Cassandra Chrostowski

School had been out two days ago. My two closest friends, Lily and Tracy were staying with me while their parents were out of town. Both of them were excited to see me because I had been at a different school this year. We still kept in touch over the phone, but hadn’t really spent time together.

School had been out two days ago. My two closest friends, Lily and Tracy were staying with me while their parents were out of town. Both of them were excited to see me because I had been at a different school this year. We still kept in touch over the phone, but hadn’t really spent time together.

Around nine o’ clock my parents went to the store with my brother while we stayed home. We got on the computer for a while; then afterwards, we painted on a poster board. Later, we hung the board on my bedroom wall. We were having such a great time that we didn’t even realize it was already eleven o’ clock. My parents had never been gone for more than an hour when they went to the store. Perhaps, I thought, they bought more things than usual or they went all the way down town.

“Hey, I found some chocolate ice cream, can I have it?” Tracy asked. “I’m trying to think, just take whatever you want!” I hollered from the living room.

“What’s wrong Cassie?” Lily asked. “My parents should have been back by now,” I answered. “Don’t worry, your parents just lost track of time. I’m sure they will be back any minute. Come on, let’s go get some ice cream, before Tracy eats all of it,” Lily answered.

After awhile, I went up to room and tried calling my mom on her cell phone but got no answer. All of a sudden, I heard a beeping noise coming from the computer which startled me. Nothing was on the screen, so I just lowered the volume. When I looked back, “You’re next!” in big red letters was blinking on the screen. I got a sick feeling in my stomach and was scared. Suddenly, a strong force pushed me off the chair to the floor. I nervously looked around to see who had pushed me, but saw nobody. Suddenly, something was holding me by my neck. I tried to yell for help but couldn’t. Unable to scream or move, I lay there thinking about my mother. I asked her to help me. I closed my eyes knowing that I would soon die unless somebody helped me. I could feel tears sliding down as I wondered why this was happening to me. The grip got tighter and stronger. Just as I was about to take my last breath, I woke up screaming and crying. It had all been a dream! Lying in my bed, I was still scared and could feel my heart pounding. My parents! I searched their room and my brother’s but didn’t find anybody. I ran down stairs as fast as I could. In the kitchen, I found my Mom. When I reached her I said, “Mom, I had the worst dream and I was so scared!” When she turned around, she looked confused, “I’m not your mother,” the lady indicated.
