SCENARIO 1: Your best friend tries to steal your thunder.

The Monitor

What they did on "Gossip Girls":

Ever since onetime queen bee Serena van der Woodsen returned from her year-long stay at a boarding school, best friend Blair Waldorf and she have been fighting to be the tops at their prep school on Manhattan's Upper East side. One season later, the fight continues, as does the backstabbing. In one episode, Blaire sabotaged Serena's acceptance into Yale by making her out to be a recovering drug addict in front of the recruiter.

What Corren Garza, 16, would do:

"To me, it's the better man wins," she said. "These shows show you that you should knock her down, and people do do that, but they're not the nicest people."

As a member of McAllen High School's choir, Garza said she has battled for the spotlight before.

"I'm one of those people who tries out for solos, but it seemed like the same person always gets them," she said. "I (would) wish that I was her at the time."

In real life, Garza said you mostly "have to deal with it and not judge yourself so much against them."

The lesson: It's OK to shoot for a goal, but it's not OK to shoot your friend to reach it.
