Kim Snyder Trio - "Sleepwalkin'"

Music studios rarely reserve space for spontaneous 1 a.m. recording sessions, unfortunately for Kim Snyder.

Snyder, who fronts local music outfit the Kim Snyder Trio, often finds herself inspired at the late hour. She wakes up, the creative urge burning in her brain.

So she has equipped her home to record music. And that's where she recorded the vocals for this week's song "Sleepwalkin'", taken from Snyder's 2007 album Better. She then sent her work with some of the music to Edinburg producer Charlie Vela, who polished it and added some shine of his own.

The result is an excellent track that captures the essence of falling into a rut. Snyder, who can often be found playing at Sahadi's in McAllen, plans to start recording a new album early next year. Looks like she'll be sleepwalkin' down to that home studio often come January.

What the Song Writer Says: The underlying message of the song is apathy. Many of us experience stages in our lives when we are "coasting" and allowing the tide to take us where it may, ass opposed to taking life by the reins and making our plans and dreams into reality. We walk through life only half awake. Perhaps we find an unhealthy relationship and lose ourselves in making another person happy. Maybe we find ways to blame our misfortune on others and vocalize that every chance we get. Or we simply numb ourselves to pain. We know better, but we still do it. Nevertheless, we live through these phases and hopefully find ourselves in a better, more active existence in which we live consciously.

Lyrics

Sleepwalkin', I was

Trash talking; I was

Out stalkin' for an ounce of control

K-Martin', I was

Smart talkin', I was

Sweet elixir for a cold-hearted soul

Just you keep keepin' on

Get yourself gone

Livin' your life

Taggin' along

Quit tryin', I was

Satisfycin', I was

Rollin' dice on what I already know

Finger pointin', I was

Disjointed, I was

Cool ointment for a fiery soul

Just you keep keepin' on

Get yourself gone

Livin your life

Taggin' along

Sleepwalkin', I was

Trash talking, I was

Out stalkin' for an ounce of control
