FESTIVA CD REVIEW: Miranda! - "El Templo Del Pop"

The Monitor

Before 2004, Miranda! was a band unheard of outside of their native Argentina.

But, thanks to the release of their hit single "Don" from their second album Sin Restricciones, enthusiasts were calling radio stations to learn the identity of this new voice.

Their musical style which Miranda! has referred to as "melodramatic electro pop" is a formula the band has perfected over the years as is evident in their greatest hits collection El Templo Del Pop.

This compilation composed of 20 tracks includes music from Es Mentira, Sin Restricciones, El Disco De Tu Corazon, and even includes the rare track "Quereme ... Tengo Frio" which was released as a tribute to soap operas and was previously unreleased outside Latin America.

As a treat to Miranda! fans, the band has included two new tracks titled "Chicas" and "Mi Propia Vida" which proves the quartet has so much more to offer, despite a sudden interest to pursue acting. Although the new songs are a slight deviation from the norm, depending on their instruments as opposed to the usual techno pop, there is no mistaking Ale's signature vocals.

The only downside is the version of "Perfecta" is not the one heard on the radio with Julieta Venegas as the guest performer. Instead, Miranda!'s own Juli takes the almost impossible task of replacing the talented singer resulting in mediocrity.

Aside from that, the music and vocals place Miranda! in a position that is on par with The Pet Shop Boys and Erasure making them one of Argentina's most respected bands. Fans of the genre will find that in El Templo Del Pop, Miranda! welcomes fans and first-time listeners to find a comfortable place and dance.
