Pat Green made ‘em laugh, made ‘em sing
CONCERT REVIEW: Pat Green - Thu., July 23 - Las Palmas Race Park, Mission
They might have been headed for another cold drink or to talk on their cell phones, but that didn’t stop Pat Green from calling them out.
“I see about four people leaving!” he bellowed at the crowd members exiting the stage area at Las Palmas Race Park in Mission. “I wouldn’t even leave a Barbra Streisand show!”
The Texas-bred singer characteristically guarantees laughs and a good time at his shows, and Thursday’s event was no different. Opening the show with “Footsteps of Our Fathers,” from his January release What I’m For, Green continually turned up the heat on an already-muggy night with his blend of traditional country, rock and pop, as part of the Texas Country Live summer concert series.

Two-steppers grooved to favorite tunes such as “Don’t Break My Heart Again,” “Southbound,” “What I’m For,” “Three Days” and “Carry On,” originally released on Three Days in 2001 and re-recorded for his newest album.
Green jokingly scolded rowdy fans, shouting “Stop all that!” and advising them to be quiet.
He gained explosive cheers when mimicking the crowds’ chant of “Pat ****ing Green!” with “Me ****ing me!”
He also lamented the travel time to the Rio Grande Valley.
“It takes a long time to get here from anywhere,” he said.
Fans expressed their appreciation in sing-along style. As with many of his hits, a chorus of voices accompanied Green on “Take Me Out to a Dancehall” — shouting “and if we get a little crazy, blame it on the alcohol,” while many raised beer cans.
Green was joined on stage by members of the Bart Crow Band to close out the show, beginning with his 2003 hit single “Wave on Wave” and sliding into U2’s “With or Without You.”
Las Palmas’ Texas Country Live series continues Aug. 6 with Roger Creager. For tickets information, visit www.laspalmastcl.com or www.ktex.net.
