JAZMIN G: The Soul Sister

Jazmin Gonzalez wasn't even a teenager when she started going to night clubs. At the age of 12, her mother took her to singing contests at various night clubs in Texas. Gonzalez didn't even care when she won the cash prizes - she just wanted to sing.

She kept to the traditional sounds of tejano, conjunto and norteno when she competed as a girl, but in high school she discovered hip hop and rap. Since then, Gonzalez has been featured as a guest singer for bands Hustle Inc., Nino, Texas Street Music, South Texas Hustlers with Steve Stax, Big Los and Lost Soulz.

If Gonzalez has anything to do with it, Texas will love her one day.

"If I don't go platinum, it won't break my heart, but I do want Texas," she said. "It's not that I don't dream big, it's just that Texas is my home and I would love to ... just to have Texas hear me."

Who is your rock star crush?

"I want to say Fifty (50 Cent) and I want to say Lenny Kravitz. Lenny Kravitz, oh my gosh, his voice, his vocal range ... he's got a voice. And Fifty, I guess, I don't know, his style. His actual clothing style, not just his rap."

What are five products you use to look hot (get brand names)?

"I use Origins, Mac - I love Mac. Mac has like, all the colors of the rainbow. And anything that shines, like glitter. I love to put glitter on before I go on stage. Lipgloss - I love to wear lipgloss. And I think blush is a must. I'm real big on blush. I love blush."

What did you look like a little kid?

"Curly hair. Like the Mexican version of Shirley Temple, probably. That's what they'd tell me."

Which Valley restaurant would you take a first date to?

"I love Johnny - it used to be Johnny Carino's, now I think it's just Carino's. I love that restaurant. That's probably my favorite restaurant."

What makes people jealous about you?

"Probably that I'm happy. That I'm happy with my life. I would tell you it's like, oh my gosh, I have the best voice or the hottest chick in the whole ... but no, I think it's just being happy. Being confident and happy with the things I have in my life."

Describe your sexiest pair of shoes.

"They're probably my six-inch stilettos. My silver ones with little sparkly rhinestones. And I can wear them with a dress or jeans. But oh yeah, I love those."

What physical feature are you most insecure about?

"I think it's every female's insecurity. Our tummy."

When you want to pig out, what do you eat?

"Hot Cheetos, Pepsi and ice cream. That was easy!" (laughs)

What's one bad habit you wish you could kick?

"Having those (Hot Cheetos, Pepsi and ice cream) in the middle of the night." (laughs)

*When did you realize you were hot?

"I had a lot of crushes in high school. Like, a lot of guys had crushes on me. So probably high school. Well, no, no, no, in junior high a lot of girls were jealous of me, but no, high school."

Who is your celebrity crush?

"If you would take, like, a few years off of Al Pacino, and I know that sounds weird, but man, I think in some of his older movies, he was just so handsome."

Would you or have you ever dated an older woman/younger man?

"Well, it depends on how much older. I think usually, yeah, I would rather them be at least a few years older than me." "Oh, I don't know, if he's mature, maybe. You got to be old enough to drink. At least, to, you know, not that I drink a lot, but oh my gosh, if they're not old enough to drink, I mean, that's too young."

How are you vain?

"You mean like spending too much time in front of the mirror, making sure everything's perfect before I walk out the door?"

What's the worst date you ever had?

"Oh my God! Actually, not even being able to follow through with it ... I had a date that was supposed to meet me somewhere and they ended up with a flat tire and I had to go and pick them up and help them get help for all of that."

What's your favorite store in La Plaza/Outlet Mall?

"Victoria's Secret. Their fragrance, their lingerie. I love the place." "Coach ... if they look good it doesn't matter what brand they are, but it just so happens that they have really, really, really nice purses. And I am a girl and it's just somehow in our DNA to like stuff like that, so, yeah."

Have a fan that's in love with you? Describe.

"Oh my gosh, there's this one guy on MySpace that's always, always inviting me out to lunch and dinner and wanting to go out with me. I think I get quite a few messages like that, but there's this one in particular. I mean, some of them are real sweet ... but once they're like ... "Ok, come on, let's just, let's go to lunch, it's not a date, it's not dinner. We don't even have to call it a date. Let's just go to lunch." And I'm not big on that, but I guess it comes with the territory."
