Award-winning kite festival to fly again in February at SPI
Colorful kites will fill the skies on South Padre Island from Friday, Feb. 3, and Saturday, Feb. 4.
The annual SPI Kite Fest, which was awarded "Kite Festival of the Year" last year by the Kite Trade Association, returns for its 12th year on the island, featuring award-winning kite fliers and their big, polyester aircrafts will cover the flats near the SPI convention centre.
The free event will kite giveaways, a silent auction, outdoor demonstrations by solo fliers and team kite-flying teams.
A popular addition in the past few years is the indoor kite exhibition, which is set for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the SPI convention centre. Performing there are national kite-flying champs Lisa Willouthby and John Barresi.
