UPDATE: Kardashians coming to the Valley
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Kardashians are headed from the Hollywood Hills to a Valley - the Rio Grande Valley.
The Pride Foundation, a local nonprofit organization that aids lower income residents, announced last week that the Kardashian sisters will appear July 18 at Cooks, Cars and Kardasians, an event featuring a cook off, battle of the bands and a car show.
While the Pride Foundation first reported the event would take place at the Edinburg Race Track, the organization now says it's searching for a new venue and hopes to have one secured by the end of the week.
Proceeds will be used to supply Valley families with home repairs, fans and other needs during the summer months, volunteer Lisa Trevino said.
General admission price will be $5, but VIP ticket prices have yet to be announced.
The Kardashians will be on hand to give out trophies to the winners of the battle of the bands and cookoff contests. They will also take photos and sign autogrpahs, Trevino said.
The family has risen to fame in recent years largely due to their E! Network television show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which chronicles the life of the wannabe celebrity family, which includes mother Kris Jenner, her husband Bruce and their six children.
Kris Jenner was married to the late Robert Kardashian, a defense attorney who became famous during the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Sisters Kourtney, Khloe and Kim Kardashian have become well-known public faces in light of the show's success.
Prior to the show's start, Kim Kardashian had a well-publicized sex tape scandal after an adult video company threatened to release footage they had acquired of her and R&B singer Ray J.
Bands participating in the event include Stillborne, Affliction of Sin, Capitol Conspiracy, Validity and more.
Sponsorship and booths are still available for commercial, food and arts and crafts vendors.
For more information on the event or to participate in any of the contests, call the Pride Foundation at (956) 383-0097 or visit them online at www.myspace.com/cookscars.
