Gloria Trevi as brash, bold and beautiful as ever at Dodge Arena show
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Gloria Trevi brought all the energy, dynamism, good humor and kitschy charm she’s known and loved for to her concert Sunday night at Dodge Arena in Hidalgo.
The pop singer, whose worldwide fame and notoriety have long drawn comparisons to Madonna, kicked off her dazzling show in a form-fitting gold outfit that showed the beloved and controversial singer hasn’t lost her enviable figure.
“La Trevi” took the 5,000 fans in attendance on a trip down memory lane during the first half of her set, tackling early hits like “Doctor Psiquiatra” while dousing the front row with her water bottle to their delight. The energetic crowd kept on their feet for the entire show, dancing and singing along.
“You know this is a dream come true for me, being here,” she told the crowd. “You all like freedom. You like being original. You like letting your hair down,” a reference to her next song, in which she writhed upon the speakers and mopped the floor with her hair dramatically.
Trevi had a half-dozen dancers and background singers at her side, in addition to the full orchestra. A huge video screen let the audience see every detail of her wild and rambunctious show.
While performing tracks off her latest disc, Una Rosa Blue, Trevi brought her two young children to the stage to frolic with her dancers, who were dressed as the zombies in Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video for a performance of Trevi’s song “Loca.”
She called her children “the light of my life.”
Trevi also thanked her mother, who sat among many other family members in the front rows, for teaching her the word “hope.”
After two hours and six costume changes, Trevi wrapped up the feel-good concert with “Cinco Minutos,” one of her most recent smash hits, leaving fans from both sides of the border with an equally good taste in their mouths.
Opening acts were ex-Kumbia Kings vocalist Peewee and former RBD member Christian Chavez, who sang a duet with Trevi and took the time to give a shout-out to his fellow Reynosa natives in the crowd.
Martha Hernandez and Brandon R. Garcia translated this story.
