Rockers, tejano acts unite to help Dolly victims
Organizing a charity concert was a lot harder Tammie Trejo thought it would be. In the two or so months since the idea's conception, Trejo's Pride Foundation has jumped a number of mighty hurdles.
They grappled with the City of Edinburg, fighting to keep their venue, which they ultimately lost. They scrambled to find another, which they ultimately did. And Trejo has fought several health battles along the way, which ultimately landed her in the hospital for three days. But with the tribulations of planning their first event over, it's time to let the music do some healing and, she hopes, some helping.
The Pride Foundation's Hurricane Relief Concert, hosted by Las Palmas Event Center, will raise money for families in the Rio Grande Valley who failed to receive aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency after Hurricane Dolly hit the region in July. Many families still live in destroyed homes, Trejo said.
Friday will feature local rock bands while Saturday and Sunday will feature some top tejano and conjunto acts.
