THE REQUESTED --- "Action Figures Moved By Real People When You're Not Looking"

Cody Peña struggled through some hard times 18 months back.
The frontman of McAllen-based Christian hardcore band The Requested admits he made mistakes.
"I would drink a lot and get drunk," he said. "I wasn't doing good. I was failing classes. I wasn't the best person."
Those troubles were the inspiration for "Action Figures Moved by Real People When You're Not Looking," which reflects on those issues and the fight to overcome them.
It's a different story these days. Peña rarely drinks anymore, he takes classes in computer networking and he sinks his heart into his band. He says writing "Action Figures" helped him become a better a person.
He sees fans at shows sharing that same experience as they sing along to the catchy vocal parts, like the opening, where Peña cries out "we burn, we burn" -- in other words, destroying yourself with bad choices.
The fans also relate to Peña's personal favorite lyric: "He is what you will find when you try to seek forgiveness."
Like many Requested tunes, the song alludes to Christianity, but Peña says listeners can interpret it any way they like -- and learn from it, as he has.
