WIN TICKETS: Cursive at Cine El Rey
Comments 0 | Recommend 0To win a pair of tickets to see Cursive on Nov. 29 at Cine El Rey, tell us whether you think cursive (the pretty, italic-like style of writing, that is) should still be taught to young children in schools in a comment at the bottom fo this article. Is it still a valuable style of penmanship, or is it simply outdated? The best argument will win its writer a pair of tickets to the show. A pair of tickets will be given away on Friday, Nov. 13, Nov. 20 and Nov. 27. You may post comments at any point between contests. Winner(s) will be decided at 3 p.m. on each of those Fridays and contacted via the e-mail address registered to www.themonitor.com. Good luck!
Cursive, a prominent indie rock band, will come to McAllen for a show Nov. 29.
Cursive, a Nebraska-based group, will play at Cine El Rey in Downtown McAllen. Tickets are available now for a pre-sale price of $12 at www.ez-tixx.com. Support on the tour will come from Capgun Coup, which like Cursive is on indie powerhouse label Saddle Creek Records.
For the past 15 years, Cursive has remained consistently relevant. When the band debuted, it made music similar to other post-hardcore rockers such as Thursday and Taking Back Sunday. Cursive’s sound has evolved.
The group now incorporates cello into many songs. The band has also used a full-horn section. Cursive has toured with such indie and alternative rock mainstays as The Cure, Interpol and Mogwai.
Cursive has already had a big year. The band released its seventh studio album, Mama, I’m Swollen, in March. That same month the group made its network debut on the Late Show with David Letterman. For more information visit www.myspace.com/goodbarlovesyou.
