Bashful boy ignites when his feet hit the stage

Robertoh Hinojosa used to be shy.

He never thought about performing with a band, but he did enjoy writing. He began creating his own music and writing lyrics when he was just 14 years old.

"I thought that I had a terrible voice, so I just kept waiting," said Hinojosa. "Then I heard about an audition for City Jam on the radio."

One year before he graduated high school, Hinojosa auditioned for the cover band and they accepted him as their next lead singer. City Jam plays several styles of music including disco, ‘80s, ‘90s, Spanish pop, traditional Regional Mexican music, rock and more for private events like weddings.

His parents were supportive and attended a show at Tequila's to watch their son perform. At the end of a set, Hinojosa said a girl ran up to the stage and ripped his shirt off.

"My mom called me a stripper for a month," he said, and then laughed.

Hinojosa is studying to be a nurse, but he also has a side project as a solo artist.

"I don't really want to be famous, I just want to have a place to sing my songs and have people see me."

What did you look like a little kid? 
I was short. I had blond hair, believe it or not. I always had white skin. I was very, like, I liked to play a lot. And I always talked a lot. I was fat. Just a little bit. Chubby.

What's a rumor you've heard about yourself?
Yes, that I'm gay. But I'm not. I don't have a girlfriend. Sometimes I'm too busy to do that.

Which Valley restaurant would you take a first date to?
Whataburger. (laughs) I'm easy. Maybe Chili's.

What makes people jealous about you?
Maybe that I'm too, that I joke a lot. And people like me. And I don't care what people think about me. I'm very confident about myself. Maybe that's why.

What physical feature are you most insecure about?
My legs. Oh, they're so skinny.

When you want to pig out, what do you eat?
Cake, chocolate and bread. I like a lot of sweet bread.

What's one bad habit you wish you could kick? 
I bite my nails a lot.

When did you realize you were hot?
Actually, I don't consider myself as hot. I'm just a guy. There are hotter guys out there.

Who is your celebrity crush?
When I was 14, it was Sarah Michelle Gellar. And now, I think it's Rihanna."

Would you or have you ever dated an older woman?
Yes, of course.

How are you vain?
I use make-up when I do shows.

What's the worst date you ever had?
I don't date a lot, but ... I went to the movie once and I went with this one chick, she was a friend of mine. And I was buying the tickets and she was like, "I'm going with this guy." And she left. I had a crush on her, but I guess she didn't know.
