NEW RESTAURANTS 2010: Bad Bob's BBQ

The Monitor

Slow-cooked Tennessee barbecue in Texas? David Guerra decided McAllen needed a new flavor on the grill when he opened a Bad Bob’s BBQ franchise October of 2009. And it’s not just good barbecue –  it’s the best Bad Bob’s BBQ of all of the Bad Bob’s BBQs, said Guerra. The McAllen location received an award for the best-tasting food in a blind taste test of all of the franchises.

“It’s my first time here,” said Travis Kayser, 27, who lives part-time at South Padre Island. “Everything’s well prepared. The meat is tender, the pork falls off the bone and the barbecue sauce just puts it right over the top.”

It’s a cozy restaurant with a few tables outside that offers your choice of many different meats. The pulled pork plates and sandwiches and pork ribs are favorites, but the restaurant also serves sausage, turkey and brisket – after all, this is Texas.
