FESTIVAMOS: Art Walk starts again tonight
Here are the scheduled exhibits and activities for tonight's Art Walk in McAllen.
Renaissance Casa De Palmas Hotel 101 N. Main Street; 664-8083
- Though relatively new to the Art Walk scene, Casa De Palmas takes the event global with an Arabian celebration. The hotel, who has taken part three times before, is throwing its first-ever rooftop party, complete with authentic tents from India, grilled lamb kabobs and even a live camel named Alan, who will pose for photos in front of the hotel. Cartoonists will be on hand and featured artists, include Ariel King, Maribel Herrera and Rod McGehee, a part-time Valleyite who will present paintings of various local landmarks as part of his "Heart of the City" exhibit. There will also be a fire show and belly dancing performances, which start at 7:30 p.m., from three local groups.

- Poetry readings by students from The University of Texas-Pan American's Master of Fine Arts program will take place from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and Shirley Rickett will read poems from her upcoming book at 8 p.m. At 8:40 p.m., Lock N Load will rock in the library's parking lot. Among the artists whose paintings and other crafts that will be displayed are: Gwendolyn Peas, Olivia Weathers, Patty Felici, Dorothy Lowe, Carl Gray Witkop, Alma Casso and Crystal Ziemann.

- The art of lucha will take center stage at the ¡Viva Lucha Libre! group show from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Paintings and various ceramics will also be on display and there will be a film screening. An extra bonus: Dress up as a luchador or wear a mask and get 10 percent discount.

- Etchings and other works from Oaxaca, Mexico-native Sergio Hernandez make their debut
Nuevo Santander Gallery 717 N. Main St.; 618-4959
- Local artist Barry Fritz shows her exhibit, "Postcards from Peru." For more on Fritz see page XX.
Douglas Clark Gallery 700 N. Main St.; 682-9893
- The gallery will have on display photos taken by members of the Upper Valley Art League, including Robert Codines. Douglas Clark, Paul Steele and Mary Cloud will also have works shown.
S. Klein Gallery 521 N. Main St.; 686-0632
- The gallery, open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., will have two exhibits on display, one by owner Stuart Klein. Violinist Benton Graves, a member of the Houston Youth Symphony, will also perform.
