Two shot near Weslaco during drive-by shooting
NEAR WESLACO — Two people are hospitalized in stable condition after an argument over a Social Security card led to a drive-by shooting Saturday evening.
Sheriff's deputies responded to a shooting at 3107 Ash St. in Colonia Las Palmas south of Weslaco about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, according to an department statement.
Two men at the property told deputies that Arlene Cavazos and Renato Vallejos had been shot by a man in a light-colored Mitsubishi Galant, deputies said. The homeowner at the property shot back but missed.
Investigators identified Marco Antonio Solis, 25, as the alleged shooter after talking to witnesses statements and showing them a photo lineup.
The shooting apparently followed an argument over the possession of a Social Security card, Sheriff Lupe Treviño said in a statement.
Vallejo was shot in the torso and Cavazos lost a finger in the drive-by shooting. Cavazos was transferred to a San Antonio hospital for treatment. Both victims are in stable condition, deputies said.
Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace Charlie Espinoza set Solis’ bond at $105,000 on attempted capital murder, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance charges.
Attempted capital murder — assessed because Solis allegedly shot at several people — is a first-degree felony punishable by up to 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
