Suspect charged with murder in Weslaco bar shooting
Comments 0 | Recommend 0WESLACO — A man has been charged with murder following a fatal shooting outside a bar last week.
Humberto Reyes, 24, was given a $1 million bond at his arraignment Thursday afternoon in Weslaco Municipal Court.
Weslaco police and Texas Department of Public Safety investigators arrested Reyes about 3 a.m. Tuesday along U.S. Highway 77 in rural Willacy County, Weslaco police spokesman David Molina said.
Investigators had conducted undercover surveillance of Reyes, one of three suspects in the Nov. 11 fatal shooting of Michael Anthony Sanchez, 28, in the parking lot outside Tequila Charly’s Bar and Grill, 318 W. Pike Blvd. Police said Reyes fled the scene in a vehicle with two of his cousins, Weslaco brothers Fernando and Omar Reyes.
The shooting ended a fight between Sanchez and Fernando Reyes, 25, that night at the bar, police said. The two men did not know each other before the clash.
No further details about the shooting were provided late Thursday afternoon.
Police still seek the Reyes brothers, whom investigators believe left the scene in a tan 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe with Texas license plate number PMS409.
Police said Omar Reyes, 30, stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 220 pounds and has black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. He has a dark birthmark on the right side of his neck.
Fernando Reyes stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighs about 250 pounds and has black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. Authorities consider him armed and dangerous and said he should be approached with caution.
