New HD channels for Time Warner customers
McALLEN — If you have a high definition television, you might have noticed a few more channels this week.
On Tuesday, Time Warner Cable added 27 high definition channels to its line up, including the Golf Channel, the Discovery Channel and all the major cable news networks.
But the 46,000 digital cable customers in the Rio Grande Valley will need to use a Scientific Atlantic cable box to see the channels. Customers with a Motorola-brand box can swap it for free by contacting Time Warner, said Laura Hernandez Aplin, communications manager.
Gavino Ramos, vice president for communications, said the company was able to offer the channels because of increased capacity on Time Warner’s fiber-optic network.
“We’ve made significant investments in our technology, our plant and our programming,” he said in a press release.
