EDINBURG — Area U.S. Border Patrol agents seized nearly 6 tons of marijuana during a two-day period earlier this week, according to an agency statement.

Agents found the pot during 35 unrelated incidents on Tuesday and Wednesday across the Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector, which stretches from Brownsville to Roma and north to near Corpus Christi.

In all, 11,800 pounds of marijuana were seized. The drugs have an estimated street value of $9.5 million.

Border Patrol spokesman Joe Treviño said he could not disclose how many arrests were made in connection with the 35 incidents, saying the cases remain under investigation and that the agency wants to “highlight” the number seizures made.

The Border Patrol statement said the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration took custody of the drugs and the apprehended suspects.
