2 more churches burn in east Texas

The Associated Press

TYLER, Texas (AP) — Fire destroyed two more churches in east Texas as arson investigators try to determine if both are part of a string of deliberate blazes.

Smith County Fire Marshal Jim Seaton told KLTV-TV that "we would just like to find out why this is going on and please stop it."

No injuries were reported in either church fire Monday night northwest of Tyler. Firefighters remained at the scene Tuesday.

Pastor Carl Samples of Dover Baptist Church, who surveyed the damage Monday night, says he "can't comprehend how anyone would do the Lord's house this way."

Fire broke out less than an hour later at Clear Spring Missionary Baptist Church, about three miles west of the first blaze.

Seven church fires this year in east Texas have been ruled arson, as was a church fire in the central Texas city of Temple.
