The Brownsville Herald

A Brownsville middle school teacher is in a San Antonio hospital recuperating from self-inflicted knife wounds received after she allegedly stabbed her husband several times.

The incident took place Friday morning at 8:15 a.m. in a gravel pit located inside a construction site at the intersection of Medina County roads 471 and 211, where the husband works, said Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Doug Christian.

Authorities report the couple was arguing and an altercation ensued where the woman repeatedly stabbed her husband in the neck and chest area before turning the knife on herself stabbing the chest and stomach area.

Christian said the couple is listed in stable condition at separate San Antonio area hospitals.

Details of the incident and the identity of the couple are not being released because of the ongoing investigation and the fact that the teacher hasn't been charged, however Christian said the sheriff's department is considering charging her with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Brownsville Independent School District spokeswoman Drue Brown confirmed the woman is a sixth-grade reading teacher at Faulk Middle School.

"BISD police is aware of the situation and they are in the process of confirming details with other law enforcement agencies," Brown said. "For us, no action can be anticipated until we know more about it."
