AUSTIN — Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick has appointed state Rep. Aaron Peña, D-Edinburg, to a committee studying toll road projects.

The Republican speakers also appointed state Rep. Ryan Guillen, D-Rio Grande City, to a task force on kidney disease.

Peña is one of nine members appointed to the Legislative Study Committee on Private Participation in Toll Projects. The group is tasked with studying possible effects of allowing development agreements between public toll groups and private companies.

Guillen is one of 17 people assigned to the Chronic Kidney Disease Task Force, which is charged with developing recommendations for healthcare workers and the public about how to more aggressively treat chronic kidney disease. The task force is expected to report its findings to the state Legislature by 2009.
