Man charged with beating three-month old son
McALLEN -- A McAllen resident was charged with the beating of his three-month old son, who remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Antonio Tamayo, 27, a Mexican citizen living in McAllen who has been deported twice, told police he shook and squeezed the belly of his three-month-old son, Johnny, the criminal complaint against Tamayo reads.
Tamayo told police he could not get little Johnny to stop crying, so he squeezed the baby's stomach and violently shook him for about 15 seconds. Tamayo then threw Johnny onto a bed "because he was very angry and stated that he lost his patience with the baby," the complaint reads.
The shaking left little Johnny with a hemmorhage inside his head, bruised his chest and lacerated his liver.
Officers arrested Tamayo on Thursday after they received a referral from Child Protective Services. McAllen Municipal Judge Kathleen Henley charged Tamayo with injury to a child Friday and set his bond at $1 million.
Johnny Tamayo remains in critical condition at Edinburg Children's Hospital. Doctors told police that the baby would likely suffer permanent brain damage or could die from his injuries.
