Robert Wiene’s revolutionary masterpiece of German expressionism, “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” will be playing at South Texas College’s Pecan Campus Auditorium on Oct. 22, 2009 at 7 pm. The auditorium is located in the Ann Richards Administration Building at 3201 West Pecan Blvd. in McAllen. Admission is $1.00 and everyone from the community is invited to attend.

“This silent masterpiece has been called the first cult movie and first horror film of genuine quality and substance,” said Tom Fuschetto, STC English instructor.

The film is about a young man named Francis (Freidrich Feher), who is relating a story about his friend Alan (Hans Heinrich Von Twardowski) and his fiancée Jane (Lil Dagover). In the story, Alan takes Francis and Jane to a fair where they meet Dr. Caligari (Werner Krauss), who is exhibiting a somnambulist named Cesare (Conrad Veidt). Dr. Caligari claims that Cesare has been asleep for many years and when awaken, can predict the future. An evening of murder and mayhem ensues to delight audiences young and old.
