Corpus Christi, TX…Christopher Kent Perkes, a junior at King High School, received his Eagle Scout Award on Saturday, May 1 at First Presbyterian Church. Perkes is a member of Troop 2 led by Scoutmaster Gary Uhlenhaker.

For his Eagle Service Project, Perkes built an 8’ x 12’ x 8’ covered bird blind with benches and 25’ trail for the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center.

Perkes is the third in his family to receive the Eagle Scout Award. His father, Greg Perkes, 1978 graduate of McAllen High School, received his Eagle from Troop 13 in McAllen, TX, in 1974; his brother, Andrew Perkes, 2005 graduate of Ray High School, received his Eagle from Troop 2 in 2002.

Only 2% of boys in Scouting achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, Scouting’s highest rank. This year, 2010, is the Centennial Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.
