Tall ships to visit Corpus port

The Monitor

McALLEN — Port of Corpus Christi officials announced a Mexican navy tall ship will visit the city over the Fourth of July in honor of the bicentennial of Mexico’s independence.

The B.E. Cuauhtémoc will visit the port from July 1 through 5 as part of the city’s U.S. Independence Day celebration, organizers announced during a press conference Tuesday. The traditionally rigged sailing vessel has embarked on a trip from Mexico across more than a dozen ports in South America and the Caribbean. Its stop in Corpus Christi will be the last on it journey.

Expected to join the B.E. Cuauhtémoc are the tall ships Esmerelda from Chile, the Capitan Miranda from Uruguay and the USCGS Eagle from the United States.

The holiday event features ship tours, exhibits, food, concerts and a beer garden. Admission is free to the public.
