New monthly poetry event debuts with Jan Seale
Celebrated artist and 2012 Texas state poet laureate Jan Seale will be featured at the first "Poetry After Hours" event at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, at the McAllen Creative Incubator.
Seale has written seven volumes of poetry, published two books of short fiction, nine children's books and three nonfiction books.
Her work has appeared in several publications, such as "The Yale Review," "Texas Monthly" and "Writer's Digest."
From workshops and readings to teaching English and creative writing at The University of Texas-Pan American, Seale has been very active as a poet, writer and educator.
About a dozen other local poets are also scheduled to read and perform.
Photo entries from the Valley Land Fund summer 2011 contest will be on display.
A book signing will follow the event.
