EDINBURG — A 38-year-old Edcouch woman died Sunday evening after the vehicle veered off the road into an open field and rolled over.

Cassandra Carter was driving a 1970s-model Chevrolet Z-71 east on state Hwy. 107 when the vehicle passed the intersection with Cesar Chavez Road and continued into an open field at about 6:36 p.m. Carter was ejected from the vehicle, said Trooper Johnny Hernandez, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The vehicle then rolled over and landed on its left side on top of Carter. She was pronounced dead at the scene, Hernandez said.

State Troopers are reconstructing the accident to determine what caused the crash, Hernandez said.
