Company creates means for diners to measure portion size

Weight loss occurs when one burns more calories than one takes in.

That’s the basic principle behind the thousands of diets on the market. At their core, all diets have people eat fewer calories. Portion Pal has taken that idea one step further. It has created “food management disks.” These disks show the portion size of meat, fish, chicken, sides and desserts.

“Most people eat about 70 percent too much food,” David Cooper, head of marketing at Portion Pal, said. These disks allow people to control the portions their eating. People just cut around the outline of the Portion Pal and then can know if they are eating the proper portion.

“We’re just making you eat any portion in the right size,” Cooper said.

After a few weeks Portion Pal users learn to modify their portion sizes.

“You end up realizing that you are cutting your food in much smaller portions,” Cooper said. “It’s a teaching tool. In the end you’ve taught yourself how to eat smaller portions.”
