FOR THE RECORD

SAN JUAN | STABBING

Police arrested a man for allegedly cutting his half brother on the neck during a fight early Tuesday morning.

Paul De Leon, 40, allegedly stabbed his 16-year-old half brother with a large kitchen knife about 6:30 a.m. at a residence near the intersection of 10th Street and Wyoming Avenue, said San Juan police Investigator Rolando Garcia.

Police have not released the name of the victim. But the 16-year-old suffered a laceration to the left side of his neck that didn't fully penetrate the skin but narrowly missed a main artery, Garcia said. The teen received six stitches for the wound.

Police arrested De Leon was on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Garcia said. He is expected to be arraigned today.

De Leon and the teen had gotten into some sort of an argument during breakfast, prompting De Leon to grab a kitchen knife and attack, Garcia said.

The teen called 9-1-1 after the attack, Garcia said. Their mother was home during the incident but did not witness it

Police discovered empty bags of cocaine at the residence and believe De Leon was addicted to the drug, Garcia said. De Leon's erratic behavior while under the influence had prompted some neighbors to move away.

"He has episodes where he'll don a red cape," Garcia said. "He believes he is the Almighty."

McALLEN | ROBBERY SUSPECTS

Police are searching for two men suspected of robbing a local department store Monday evening, authorities said.

Officers believe the men stole jewelry from the Macy's store at 2100 S. 10th St. and assaulted a loss prevention officer as he tried to stop the pair while they were leaving the store about 6 p.m., according to a news release from the McAllen Police Department.

One man is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, with a teardrop tattoo near one eye and other tattoos on his arms. He was last seen wearing a black cap, black T-shirt, cargo shorts and sandals.

The other man is described as Hispanic, 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, with tattoos on his arms. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored muscle T-shirt, tan cargo shorts and tennis shoes.

Anyone with information is urged to call McAllen Crime Stoppers at (956) 687-8477.
