McAllen police step up DWI enforcement

McALLEN -- Police will concentrate more effort on finding drunken and impaired drivers for the next two weeks.

The McAllen Police Department will work with the Texas Department of Transportation through March 23 on this project. Police will conduct the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program.

Officers on regular and overtime patrol will look for drivers that have consumed alcohol. This effort includes additional patrols to enforce driving while intoxicated laws.

Police advise residents to designate a sober driver before going out. If you don't have a designated driver, police say you should call a taxi or sober friend after you have been drinking.

McAllen police ask anyone that spots a drunken driver to call the department at 682-4321.
