Police searching for "person of interest" in Weslaco homicide

The Monitor

WESLACO — Police are seeking the public's help tracking down a person of interest who may have information about a killing that occurred here earlier this week.

Police are trying to get in touch with 30-year-old Mission resident Hector Javier Sanchez, who they say is an acquaintance of homicide victim Donna Lee Bocanegra, 26, who was shot to death Sunday.

The shooting, which occurred about 1 p.m. and may have involved three attackers, also seriously injured Donna's mother, 65-year-old Manuela Bocanegra.

Sanchez is not a suspect in the case, said David Molina, a Weslaco police spokesman.

Molina said police want to speak to Sanchez to determine if he has any information about the crime.

Police would not say why they believe Sanchez may have knowledge of the killing.
