McAllen man pleads guilty for trying to rape 13-year-old babysitter

EDINBURG — A McAllen man accused of trying to rape his children’s 13-year-old babysitter earlier this year has pleaded guilty to one count of attempted sexual assault.

Edwin Auner Morales, 23, received a deferred sentence at a hearing Sept. 22, meaning he will not have to serve any jail time if he does not run into criminal problems again during a probationary period.

Prosecutors alleged Morales forced himself on the girl in May, while she was carrying his wife’s baby. He told her he was having marital problems and grabbed her by the arms, according to court documents.

The girl told investigators that she put the child on the bed in an attempt to leave, when Morales pushed her down and got on top of her. She escaped unharmed.
