CBP finds $130k of pot hidden inside truck's tires
Comments 0 | Recommend 0PHARR — U.S. customs officers arrested a Mission woman Monday after finding marijuana hidden within her truck’s tires.
Officers at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge referred the 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Mayra Lee Janet Becho to a secondary inspection station as she tried to enter the United States on Monday, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection statement.
A narcotics detector dog alerted officers to a drug odor coming from inside the truck’s four tires, which an X-ray scan revealed to have anomalies. Officers opened up the tires and found 16 packages of marijuana inside.
The 162 pounds of the drug have an estimated street value of about $130,000.
Becho, 19, was arrested on federal drug charges and remains incarcerated pending an appearance before a U.S. magistrate judge.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents continue to investigate. CBP officers seized the marijuana and the pickup truck.
