Border Patrol agents intercept more than 6.5 tons of marijuana
RIO GRANDE VALLEY — U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley netted more than 6.5 tons of marijuana during separate seizures this week.
Monday, Falfurrias agents discovered 1 ton of the drug in a load of produce.
Tuesday, Weslaco agents tracked down five Mexican nationals from their footprints and seized 148 pounds.
Wednesday, McAllen agents pursued a vehicle carrying just under 500 pounds of marijuana. The chase ended near Hidalgo.
Rio Grande City agents seized 119 pounds of marijuana Thursday near Escobares after following footprints from the river to a brushy area where the drugs were discovered.
Combined with other seizures totaling several tons, the entire week’s haul of marijuana has an estimated street value of more than $8.7 million.
