Border Patrol agents seize 500 pounds of marijuana

The Monitor

SULLIVAN CITY — A drug smuggler left behind more than 500 pounds of marijuana while fleeing U.S. Border Patrol agents Monday near Sullivan City.

Agents patrolling the Rio Grande area spotted an older-model vehicle driving north from the river and attempted to follow it. The driver sped away from agents back toward the river, crashing into a dirt embankment at the edge of a road.

The driver bailed from the vehicle and ran into a patch of brush, leaving more than $400,000 worth of marijuana in the vehicle.

No arrests were made in connection with the brief pursuit.
