Mexican national arrested with $1.5 million of cocaine
Comments 0 | Recommend 0HIDALGO — Federal customs officers seized nearly 50 pounds of cocaine that carried a street value of more than $1.5 million.
The seizure happened Saturday at the Hidalgo-Reynosa International Bridge, where officers sent a northbound 2003 Dodge Ram pickup truck to secondary inspection.
There, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection narcotic detector dog picked up odors emanating from the truck’s firewall area. Customs officers eventually found 21 cocaine packages hidden inside the truck and arrested Edgar Alexis Garza Gonzalez, a 22-year-old Mexican national from Cadereyta, N.L.
Garza remains incarcerated pending an appearance before a U.S. magistrate. CBP seized the drugs and the truck.
