Police: 13 vehicles vandalized with air gun in north McAllen

McALLEN - Police officers were swamped with vandalism complaints Tuesday night after 13 north McAllen residents discovered the rear windshields of their vehicles had been shattered, officials said.

Police have few leads in the case, although officers suspect the windows were shot at using an air gun, said Sgt. Joel Morales with the McAllen Police Department.

The department is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest or indictment of the perpetrators.

Investigators believe the shooter may have been riding inside a small green passenger vehicle.

"We don't know who these people are," Morales said, adding that a motive was yet unclear. The air gun shootings do not appear to be gang-related.

Suspects would likely face criminal mischief charges, ranging from Class A to a Class B misdemeanors. A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in county jail and a possible $4,000 fine.

>> 6901 N. 34th St.
