Mission bank robbed
MISSION — The robber politely stood in line waiting his turn.
Once he reached a teller, though, he got impatient as the clerk read his note demanding money.
"He started saying, ‘Give me the money, give me the money,' or something like that," said Sgt. Jody Tittle, a Mission police spokesman.
The man snatched some cash from the teller and ran from the Frost Bank branch at 1514 E. Griffin Parkway, at the intersection with Stewart Road.
He jumped into a white, two-door sedan just after 11 a.m. and sped south on Stewart, police said.
The amount stolen remains unknown.
The robber is a Hispanic male with a dark complexion and weighing about 250 pounds.
Police closed the branch Thursday while they processed the scene.
The robbery was at least the third such incident in the area in the past four weeks.
Cesar Gutierrez, 21, of Edinburg, was arraigned Sunday on two charges of aggravated robbery in connection with a March 16 robbery at Lone Star Bank, 206 W. Ferguson Ave., Pharr, and an April 2 robbery at NAFT Credit Union, 901 N. "I" Road, Pharr.
In both of those earlier incidents, a man drove up to the drive-through window and handed a note to the teller demanding money. The robber of the Lone Star Bank made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, but the robber of the credit union left empty-handed.
