Police investigated an apparent drive-by shooting on the 400 block of South 21st Street about 7 p.m. Tuesday in McAllen.

McALLEN — No injuries were reported after several gunshots were reportedly fired in a residential neighborhood Tuesday evening.

Nearby residents said least four gunshots were fired from a passing car about 6:45 p.m. near 412 S. 21st St. in McAllen.

Crime scene investigators examined the scene for about 30 minutes as neighbors stood by and watched. One man said he was reading the newspaper when he thought he heard "firecrackers or something" explode in the street.

The homeowner at 412 S. 21st St. said he heard five shots in front of his house as he sat inside with his wife and son.

The man said his family was unharmed and none of the gunshots appeared to hit his house.

"I quickly came out to see if my family was OK," he said. "We were lucky we weren't outside.

"It's a very scary place to be here."

Officers at the scene refused to provide any information about the shooting.
