Comments 0 | Recommend 0LA CASITA — A pair of smugglers abandoned nearly 2 tons of marijuana as they ran from authorities Monday.
U.S. Border Patrol agents patrolling this community, also known as Garciasville, spotted the two men as they stood near a shed just north of the Rio Grande, according to a statement the agency issued Tuesday.
The duo fled when the agents approached them to conduct an immigration inspection. The agents smelled marijuana and entered the shed, where they found 60 bundles of marijuana. The drugs weighed about 3,762 pounds and have an estimated street value of more than $3 million.
No arrests were made during Monday's incident. The drugs were turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, which is investigating the case.
