More than 2 tons of marijuana seized in Mission

The Monitor

MISSION — Authorities seized more than 2 tons of marijuana from a stash house here Tuesday, officials said.

The drugs were found at a home at 2115 E. 29th St., according to a news release issued by the Hidalgo County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas task force.

HIDTA agents found 4,699 pounds of marijuana piled inside two bedrooms at the house.

The home was apparently being rented at the time of the seizure.

Agents arrested Jose Francisco Guizar, a Mexican national. He was arraigned Wednesday on drug charges, according to HIDTA Cmdr. Dora Muñoz.

Guizar, who was "very cooperative," was home alone during the raid, Muñoz said.

"He took full responsibility for the drugs," she said.

Guizar is currently being held at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.

Muñoz said investigators had conducted surveillance before serving a search warrant at the location.

The HIDTA program coordinates federal, state and local law enforcement entities within Hidalgo County and gives officers additional resources to fight drug trafficking.
