Comments 0 | Recommend 0LA JOYA -- The Hidalgo County fire marshal has taken over investigating what caused a grass fire on Tom Gill Road and Mile 4 Line, said the city's fire chief Richard Flores.
Firefighters extinguished a 14-acre grass fire before it could reach nearby homes and Corina Pena Elementary School. No injuries were reported, Flores said.
The fire started around 8:30 p.m. Alton and Mission fire departments helped put out the flames. Witnesses told firefighters they saw a black Dodge vehicle, but they did not remember the license plate number, Flores said.
