Sheriff's investigators arrested on burglary, felony drug charges

The Monitor

EDINBURG — Two Hidalgo County Sheriff's investigators have been arrested on burglary and felony drug possession charges.

Investigators Heriberto Diaz and Omar Salazar have been arrested on burglary, felony possession of marijuana and organized crime activity charges, Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño said Tuesday afternoon.

Both men are robbery investigators with the sheriff's office, Treviño said.

Treviño suspended the two men as the sheriff's office oversaw an investigation into "suspicious activity" alongside the FBI and Hidalgo County District Attorney's Office.

The investigation into Diaz and Salazar are linked to a drug raid carried out on Oct. 15 in Mission. The city’s Police Department assisted in the raid.

Further details are expected to be released after the men's arraignment Tuesday afternoon.
