H1N1 information session set for Oct. 29

UTPA

The University of Texas-Pan American will host an information session about the H1N1 flu and vaccination on Thursday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the University Library.

University staff members will provide information about the benefits and risks of the H1N1 vaccine so the campus community can make an informed choice, according to Eddie Quintanilla, UTPA’s health education coordinator.

“The population has so many questions. Some want to get the vaccine and others are resistant to the idea of getting a vaccine that has not been tested as rigorously as other vaccines,” Quintanilla said. “If students, faculty and staff come by to get the screening information and the Q&A sheet, they’ll be ready to make a wise decision about getting the vaccine.”

During this information session, consent forms to receive the vaccination will be available. UTPA is expected to receive an allotment of the H1N1 vaccine in early November and plans to offer the vaccine to the University community thereafter. More information about when and where the vaccine will be available on campus will be released soon.
